Leaving the School Board

“We Don’t Want You to Leave the School Board”

How I Can Continue Helping Our Schools as County Commissioner

I’ve heard this concern from many parents, educators, and community members:

“We don’t want you to leave the School Board.”

I take that sentiment seriously—and I’m grateful for the trust it represents.

My service on the Dare County Board of Education, including my current role as Chairman, has been one of the most meaningful responsibilities of my life. Our schools, students, teachers, and families will always matter deeply to me.

My decision to run for County Commissioner is not about stepping away from education—it’s about strengthening it.

Serving Schools from a Different Seat

While the Board of Education oversees school operations, the County Commissioners control critical funding, facilities planning, and long-term infrastructure decisions that directly affect our schools.

As County Commissioner, I can:

  • Advocate for responsible, sustainable school funding
  • Ensure capital projects and facilities planning are handled thoughtfully
  • Strengthen communication and cooperation between the County and School Board
  • Bring firsthand knowledge of school needs to county-level decision-making

This role allows me to support schools from a broader perspective—one that impacts budgets, planning, and taxpayer priorities.
